Freeze Dried Sourdough Starter (2 for 1 Small Business Collaboration)
Made by Madison. Preserved by Moe.
This starter isn’t just something you bake with. It is something that was built between two friends who decided to create something better together instead of doing it alone.
Madison from The Little Nook Sourdough has spent her time creating and maintaining a strong, reliable sourdough starter. Moe from Modi’s Freeze Dried Treats took that same starter and carefully freeze dried it to preserve its life, strength, and flavor for the long haul.
This is what happens when one person makes it and another makes sure it lasts.
What You Get
Each package includes two 10 gram starter portions, for a total of 20 grams in one bag. That means you are getting two full opportunities to bring your starter to life.
Why We Made It This Way
We could have sold you one starter and called it good. That is what most people do.
But we know better.
Between the two of us, we have seen starters forgotten, neglected, overfed, underfed, and sometimes just straight up abandoned. It happens.
So instead of setting you up for frustration, we built in a second chance.
You can use one now and save one for later. You can keep a backup so you do not have to start over from scratch. Or you can share one with someone else and bring them into it with you.
Two starters, one package, one price. Because that just made more sense to us.
The Value
Most freeze dried starters are sold as a single portion for 20 dollars or more.
We decided to do things differently.
You get two portions for 5 dollars, while also supporting two small businesses that put real time and care into what you are getting.
Shelf Life
Because it is freeze dried, this starter can sit shelf stable for up to 25 years. There is no maintenance required until you are ready to use it. It will be ready whenever you are.
How to Activate Your Starter
Day 1
Add 5 grams of your dehydrated sourdough starter to a clean container. You can store the remaining 5 grams in an airtight container for another use.
Add 30 grams of warm water to your container and, using a clean spoon, swirl the water and starter. The flakes will not dissolve yet. They just need to be in contact with the water to soften.
After 20 to 60 minutes, add 20 grams of flour. Mix thoroughly and place your lid lightly on your container. Do not seal it tightly, as the starter will release gas.
Day 2
After 24 hours, measure 10 grams of your mixture into a new, clean container and discard the remainder. Add 25 grams of water and 25 grams of flour. Mix until no dry flour remains, then lightly cover your container.
Day 3
After 24 hours, you will start to see activity and bubbles. Repeat the process by keeping 10 grams of your starter and adding 25 grams of water and 25 grams of flour. Mix thoroughly and lightly cover.
Day 4
You will see the most activity and bubbling on this day. Add 10 grams of your day 3 mixture to a clean container along with 25 grams of water and 25 grams of flour. Within 12 hours, you should see even more rise and movement.
Day 5
Your starter is ready to use. At this point, you can begin baking and move into your regular maintenance routine.
Why It Matters
This is not mass produced. It is not factory made. It is not something that was thrown together to make a quick sale.
This is something two friends built together, combining what they each do best.
When you buy this, you are not just buying a starter. You are supporting two small businesses, two skill sets, and a product that was made with intention from start to finish.
And if your first one does not make it…
Good thing you have a second one waiting.
